When I had my consultation with Jennifer and Devon, I knew they were a great couple right away! They received my name from Our Lady of Mt.Carmel church, where they were getting married, and neither one realized at first that they wanted a Catholic wedding photographer. As we chatted, though, the value of having a Catholic photograph this momentous day became clear, and our preparations together began.
We’ve all heard it said a million times that “rain on your wedding day is good luck.” While that platitude is well-meaning, it is rare that a couple actually wants rain on their wedding day, as it can put a damper on capturing the beautiful outdoor pictures every couple dreams of. And, those beautiful outdoor pictures were definitely what Jennifer and Devon desired – so much so that they scheduled their wedding to coincide with the peak of the fall foliage in the hopes of capturing the vivid colors.
The much-anticipated day arrived, and with it came drizzling rain that stayed with us throughout the entire day. But this determined couple didn’t let the rain dampen their occasion, and they joyfully worked with me to snag some portraits in between the showers. We captured some fantastic outdoor photos with stunning fall color in the background and, with their bright attitude, the rain only served to make the day more memorable!

Another favorite memory from this wedding: the cookie table!!! My years in Steubenville, Ohio, about 3 hours south of Cleveland, taught me that the long-standing Italian wedding tradition of a “Cookie Table” extends far outside of the Cleveland area where I was raised (we had one at our wedding, too!). This delicious, and often beautiful, tradition is an unexpected and oh-so-delightful treat for your guests, as they often get to take a box or bag of cookies home in addition to enjoying them at the celebration! Many times the cookies are made by the relatives of the bride or groom, or the families may choose to honor a local, favorite bakery by featuring their cookies on the table.
Come rain or shine, we pray that Jennifer and Devon have a joy-filled life together and that – especially on those rainy days – they don’t forget to bring out the cookies!
